Engaging Families in Dance: An Investigation of moving parents and children together

This article describes a relationship-based dance program and summarizes a 3-year study of teacher practice and parent-child interactions. This work focuses on relational engagement in dance, and a psychological investment in interpersonal skills. After working with many families from low socio-economic backgrounds this study shows that dance can promote experiences that can create sudden insight, opening previously shut channels of communication and understanding.
