Google Street View/Math/Landmarks and Local History

Road map for a geometry unit plan: Infusing math, technology and local history. Landmarks around Miami Dade County are identified (The Reagan Statue at Tropical Park, Julia Tuttle in Bayfront Park, The Merrick House in Coral Gables, The Jose Marti Statue in Little Havana, Vizcaya, Stiltsville, Deering Estates, etc). Students use the Google Street View program to measure distances between the landmarks and try to determine if linking them would approximate any regular geometric shapes. The Pythagorean theorem, the distance formula, the midpoint formula, etc are explored.
