Claim-Evidence-Reasoning Tool Kit

This tool kit includes a researched-based approach to implementing a claim-evidence-reasoning (CER) approach in secondary classrooms. The toolkit includes suggestions for classroom components to improve argumentation in the classroom, examples of units and supports involving CER, and resources to support implementing CER in your science classroom. It contains specific goals and sentence starters for students to use and track in either a group or partner setting. Once students acquire the talk moves, they are able to fluently add more, rebut, or question others’ contributions, leading to productive discussions and enhanced speaking skills.
