She didn’t know it at the time, but Rachel Smith’s life would change while watching the University of Miami football team play Duke. With a few lateral passes and an ending fit for a blockbuster, Rachel knew where to take her talents: the 305.Now she is a graduate of The U with a dual degree in broadcast journalism and sports administration. During her time there she started "The Culture," a show putting the Black student experience on the big screen, for which she was nominated for an Emmy. It also helped her realize her ultimate goal- to create compelling content that obliterates negative stereotypes, inspires the youth, and causes a ripple of positive action. She continued that mission working with several sports companies including Bleacher Report, ESPN, Madison Square Garden Networks and the Miami Dolphins. The exciting endeavors expand beyond the media companies and football field. "Girls of the Game" is a video series that features sports journalists like Taylor Rooks, Joy Taylor, MJ Acosta, and Molly Qerim Rose who share intimate stories about becoming the dynamic sports figures they are today. In partnership with Kevin Durant’s Boardroom, she writes stories about everything from HBCU football matchups to Drake’s (not so hidden) sports references on new albums. Today, Rachel creates content that highlights the people behind the game in off-the-court and field stories about everything from their favorite rappers to their mental health battles. In addition she works with Facebook and Jordan brand in content creation for Wasserman’s Laundry Service Agency. Rachel looks forward to expanding her creative enterprise with compelling content creation now more than ever.
