

Darrel Young

Darrel was born and raised in Amityville, New York. He is a nine-year NFL veteran, playing for the Washington Redskins, where he served as team captain for 3 consecutive years, was the recipient of the Byron Whizzer Award for Community MVP and won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2014. He also played for the Carolina Panthers and the Chicago Bears. He is the current Director of Player Development with the Pittsburgh Steelers assisting players during and beyond their NFL experience. Darrel has a proven commitment to community outreach programs as an NFL player. He has an acute knowledge of internal organizational structure, experience and relationships with key stakeholders, and ability to create strategic vision for diversity and inclusion. Darrel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Villanova University and a Master’s degree from Georgetown University. He volunteers for the Greater Washington, D.C. Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization. He was also an NFL USO tour participant and has extensive community involvement in the D.C. metropolitan area. Young has one daughter.
