No Child Left Behind: A Decade of Failure

Brown, C. O., & Bragg, A. (2012, January 6). No Child Left Behind: A Decade of Failure.

This video serves as a great introduction to one of the many concerns with the enactment of No Child Left Behind: a national curriculum that minimizes state control of education. Although the No Child Left Behind Act was meant to compel states to adopt high standards and improve education in public schools, it is now clear that NCLB has been a failure and has set the stage for even greater federal control over curriculum. Neal McCluskey, associate director of the Cato Institute’s Center for Educational Freedom, comments on NCLB’s decade of failure yet  the true failure is the process by which educational policy is made. The solution, contrary to what many advocates claim, is to get the federal government out of America’s classrooms.
