M-DCPS Access via the UM Department of Teaching and Learning or CEWRC

Thank you for your interest in working with local public schools. The UM School of Education and Human Development’s Teaching and Learning (TAL) faculty have established strong partnerships with school administrators, teachers, and community members in Miami-Dade County. University/School partnerships take time and effort to establish, involve relationship-building, and ultimately seek to contribute to the public good, thus public schools are valued spaces that provide ways for the University to give back to the Miami and South Florida communities.

The Department of Teaching and Learning (TAL) partners with M-DCPS schools via a Professional Development School (PDS) model or a partner school model. There may be ongoing research and/or service projects at sites in both school partner models.

The PDSs are school–university partnerships designed to support teacher preparation, professional development, inquiry and research, and student learning. A Teaching and Learning faculty member is assigned as Professor in Residence (PIR) to each PDS.

Partner schools are utilized for pre-service teachers’ field experiences and student teaching placements. Some partner schools have explicit partnership agreements with TAL.

All PDS or partner schools are in proximity to the University of Miami’s Coral Gables campus, with the furthest school within 8 miles; each school offers varied student demographic characteristics. If one or more of these school(s) would be suitable for your project, please select and submit your survey to receive an email with more information on next steps to facilitate a partnership with the school(s) selected. If you would like more information about TAL’s PDS or partner schools, contact the TAL chair. The table below provides an overview of TAL PDS and partner school demographics.

If you are a member of the UM community and would like to access an M-DCPS school for a project, please complete one of the surveys below.

These surveys were created for members of the University of Miami community who are interested in collaborating with one or more local public schools.
