Biography

Mistoria Brown is a South Florida native from Ft. Lauderdale. She was a Digital Video and Cambridge Media Studies educator for Broward County Public Schools prior to enrolling as a doctoral student. In the spring of 2022, she completed an M.S. Ed.in Education and Social Change at the University of Miami, earning the Outstanding Student award for the program. Mistoria is a doctoral student in the Language and Literacy Learning in Multilingual Settings program area, and part of the School of Education and Human Development's first cohort of AACTE Holmes Scholars. She is interested in studying education structures and systems that contribute to inequities, applied linguistics in education, and STEM inequities; however, her continued passion for technology supports a focus to create accessible, interactive, and engaging learning opportunities for K-12 communities and adult learners. Mistoria currently supports the CEWRC’s Exploring STEM Equity in Community project. She spends most of her time working with community partners to build capacity for educational training and employability programs that target youth and adults in Broward County.
