NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR FALL 2024

Choose one of 3 tracks and earn a second credential with no extra time to degree.

  1. Enrollment Management, the first EM program in the nation
  2. Student Life & Development
  3. Institutional Research & Policy Analysis

No other organization in the world operates like a college or university. In the University of Miami Master of Science in Higher Education, you will grasp the fundamentals of higher education and its singular mission, gain invaluable experience in college and university offices, and develop the ability to use research and theory to successfully work with students, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.

  • All 3 majors employ the enrollment management (EM) perspective, crucial to effective higher education administration because it calls for research data to inform decision-making and strategic planning, and it prizes collaboration and problem-solving across office lines.
  • The University of Miami was a pioneer in enrollment management and started the nation’s first EM-centered master’s program two decades ago.
  • In all 3 majors, you learn the foundations of higher education, including history, student development and diversity, and research methods. You also can earn a certificate in an area other than your major—the dual credentialing so attractive to employers—with no extra time to degree. More than 90% of our master’s students add value to their MSEd in this way.
  • Working professionals who already have master’s degrees also can earn one of our certificates to extend skills and credentials.
  • The program can be completed in one or two years.
  • Our track record is exemplified by our graduates: In 2022, 100% of our graduates acquired middle-management positions in higher education or advanced their careers at their current institutions. In 2023, 90% of our graduates occupied management positions, while 10% pursued doctoral studies.

The MSEd practicum is distinctive: You will not only pursue yearlong experiences in student affairs or enrollments or institutional research but also learn how to connect those experiences to theory, research, and your own personal and professional development through journaling and reflective analysis.

  • Paid graduate assistantships can support your studies while you gain experience working in higher ed.

You will develop leadership skills in the areas that most interest you, such as residential life, student activities, admissions, financial aid, multicultural student affairs, institutional research, study abroad, athletics, and more.

  • Communication skills are stressed, especially strong writing, and you will regularly write case-study analyses based in research and theory.
  • Our faculty of research scholars and practicing professionals provide hands-on support throughout your program and job search or pursuit of doctoral studies.
  • Alumni routinely tell us that the program enriched their lives and continues doing so.
