Our School

Education should be a tool for transformation. For individuals. For communities. That is the core of Dean Laura Kohn-Wood’s mission for the University of Miami’s School of Education and Human Development. Building on the well-laid foundation of integrating educational, psychological, and physical wellbeing into formal education, established by former Dean Isaac Prilleltensky, Kohn-Wood intends to harness the immense talent, research skills, and know-how of her faculty, staff, and students to solve real-life problems.

How do you measure impact? As the (still) relatively new dean of the School of Education and Human Development (SEHD), almost everywhere I go I say that our school seeks greater impact. We want to ensure that education can transform lives. This is a central premise of a democratic country, that citizens have opportunity for social mobility through education.

Watsco Kids – ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DAY 2019-2020

Ms. Emily Panasowich, Assistant Athletic Director for Community Engagement & Events invited Dr. Gigi Gilbert, Scholar in Residence, to attend the annual Elementary School Day women’s basketball game. The event was held on November 13, 2019 at the Watsco Center.

Research Center

The CEW-RC seeks to promote the emotional, educational, and physical well-being of all children and families.

We strive to work with diverse and underserved populations, to support individuals who dedicate their lives to helping others, and to ensure that our work is always culturally informed and evidence based.

Richter Library

The University of Miami Libraries rank among the top research libraries in North America with a combined collection of over 3.5 million volumes and access to more than 90,000 electronic and print serials.

Other resources include 656,893 electronic books, and access to more than 1,000 electronic databases.

Dean's Dozen

A group of twelve official student ambassadors who are involved in representing our school in university and general civic community life.

The Dean’s Dozen is a voluntary group of students formed for the purpose of aiding our school in representation and recruitment of students for the University of Miami.
