Champions of change: Girls and women in STEM

The White House (2011, December 9). Champions of change: Girls and women in STEM. Retrieved from: YouTube.

The Whitehouse Champions of Change are individuals who have had a large impact on improving social problems in various fields. The Champions of Change of Girls and Women in STEM are twelve local leaders, including teachers, industry leaders, non-profit leaders, and even students. These individuals have taken different approaches to addressing the unequal representation of women in STEM careers by focusing on increasing equity in STEM education. This video shows a panel format presentation during which each panelist has the opportunity to briefly describe the work that she or he has done to increase female representation in STEM. Solutions range from being classroom based to being district wide. Some solutions involve partnerships with local businesses to provide internships for female STEM students, while others provide mentorship programs through partnership with universities.
