Dr. Mikati joined the University of Miami faculty in January 2018. In 2006, she obtained her B.S. degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the American University of Beirut with distinction. She then attended Wayne State University and earned a M.S. degree in Nutrition and Food Science. Dr. Mikati obtained her PhD in Dietetics and Nutrition from Florida International University in 2016. Her research primarily focused on obesity prevention where she designed and implemented an afterschool intervention for children aged 6-11 in order to promote healthy eating habits and physical activity. She won numerous awards for her dissertation with the most prominent being an oral presentation finalist at the American Society for Nutrition’s conference in April 2016.
Dr. Mikati has been a Registered Dietitian since 2008 with a License to practice in Florida. She has experience in clinical (outpatient and inpatient) and community nutrition as well as food service management. She has obtained multiple scholarships and awards along the way including Registered Young Dietitian of the Year in 2009 granted by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics President’s scholarship in 2014 and a research grant from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation in 2015. Dr. Mikati is servsafe® certified as well as Basic Life Support certified by the American Red Cross. She has had numerous consulting opportunities throughout her career in the U.S, Middle East and Africa including owning her weight loss private practice. Her most recent position was working with Sodexo as a clinical nutrition manager with the Jackson Health System.
Dr. Mikati comes to our department with 10 years of teaching experience from various universities including overseas practice. She is very enthusiastic to become a member of the University of Miami and hopes to grow the nutrition program.
