Congratulations on your decision to attend the University of Miami in the fall, 2015.  My name is Gina Astorini and I am the Dean for Undergraduate Academics and Director of Advising in the School of Education and Human Development. My office works with first-year students during their fall advising appointment to create an essential 4 year Course Advising Plan (CAP) customized to address curricular interests, courses for their selected major(s) and minor(s), and general education cognate requirements. We encourage students to consider incorporating a Study Abroad Program during their undergraduate career.  Early consideration optimizes student opportunities to participate in these programs. Our advising efforts are geared toward ensuring our students take the appropriate courses that help prepare them for a career, advanced studies, and post-graduate degree acquisition.

In the meantime…I have constructed a course selection process for you that should be easy to follow and will allow you to choose courses that will count for your major as well as your general education requirements. Please select your major and then click on the hyper-link which will take you to a page outlining the courses that you should enroll for your first semester.

Once you have identified the courses that you should enroll (based on SAT placement and AP/IB credit), please proceed to the registration process.  Go to your CaneLink account and access the Student Center.  From there you will go to “My Class Schedule” and follow the correct prompts to register for the courses that you have been instructed to enroll.

If you need further help after reading through the information for your particular major, please send an e-mail to me or Ms. Bethany Angiolillo, the Manager of Advising for the Kinesiology and Sport Sciences. One of us will respond to your e-mail.  Please include your phone number in case we need to speak with you.

Good luck and we look forward to meeting you in August!
